Economy, Abortion, and Immigration Take Center Stage in Trump-Harris Debate
(Trump-Harris Debate): On Tuesday night, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris met on the debate stage for the first time in the 2024 U.S. presidential race. The two contenders sparred over pivotal issues such as the economy, abortion rights, immigration policy, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the war in Ukraine, and the U.S. exit from Afghanistan, in a bid to capture the attention of voters nationwide.
The 90-minute debate, which kicked off at 9 p.m. Eastern Time (0100 GMT), was hosted by ABC News. Trump and Harris exchanged sharp criticisms but ended the event with a handshake.
This debate marks the second in the 2024 election cycle. The first took place in June between Trump and President Joe Biden. Shortly afterward, Biden withdrew from the race amid increasing pressure.
With only two months left until election day, this debate comes at a crucial juncture, as polls indicate a highly competitive race between the candidates.
